Description

Cefim is semi synthetic, cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration. it is chemically Cefixime and is marketed by Hilton Pharma.

How Cefim Works

Like all betalactim antibiotics, Cefim binds to specific penicillin binding proteins located inside the bacterial cell wall, causing the inhibition of the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall autolatic enzymes such as autolysins; it is possible that cefim interferes with an autolysin inhibitor.

Indications

Cefim is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic, which has marked in vitro bactericidal activity against a wide variety of gram positive and gram negative organism.

Cefim is indicated for the treatment of the following acute infections when caused by susceptible micro organism;

Contraindications

Cefim is contraindicated for the patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.

Dosage

Absorption of Cefim is not significantly modified by the presence of food. The usual course of treatment is five to fourteen days. The amount of the drug to be taken daily is dependent upon the type and severity of infection. Usually Cefim is recommended once daily.
